[W4756] – WVS Office, Mrs Kleinwort, 1942

Mrs Kleinwort’s office, Southover House 1943. Joan Nightingale Kleinwort (left) was the Women’s Voluntary Service County Organiser from 1942-45 and was awarded an MBE for her work. She advised “two of our main services are concerned with military social welfare and the preparation and distribution of post-raid clothing.” The second woman is possibly Eveline Warren, her deputy. Kleinwort continued altruistic work throughout her life and donated a fortune to charity.
